With Spring in view, there is only one thing on a young dancer’s mind—recital time! Spring and summer recitals are so much fun and an excellent way for students to showcase all they have learned in the past year. Putting time and effort into preparing for your recital will help the day go as smoothly as possible. Below are a few tips on how to prep for your big day!

Go to Class

To best prepare for your recital, try not to miss any classes a month or so before the big performance. Practicing with other dancers in your class will help you feel more comfortable performing your routine. Also, if you know your routine super well, you will be less likely to make a misstep if you get nervous on stage.

Practice Healthy Habits

While you should practice healthy habits year-round, it is especially important right before a recital, so you can have enough energy for what will be a busy, exciting day. Be sure to get enough sleep, eat balanced, wholesome meals, and drink lots of water leading up to your performance.

Pack in Advance

The last thing you want is to get to the recital location across town and realize you forgot one of your tap shoes. That is why we recommend making a packing list of all the items you will need on recital day and to pack a few days in advance. You may even consider bringing a few extras of certain things in case a classmate forgets their bobby pins or gets a hole in their tights the day of.

Recital time is the most exciting time in the dance season, and you want it to be as fun and stress-free as possible for you and other dancers. Going to class regularly, practicing healthy habits, and packing in advance will help you feel more prepared going into a chaotic but fun-filled day.
