If you have recently signed up for dance classes, congratulations! You have taken a bold step to improve your life and try something new! Now that you’ve signed up, the real work begins. Here is a guide to your first dance class:

Wear the right clothes.

As with any sport or activity, you will need to dress appropriately for dance. At Dance Classics, we allow you to purchase any dance attire you may need through the studio for your convenience. Hair must be pulled securely off the neck and should not be falling into the eyes. Ponytails, braids, and ballet buns are all acceptable. Please consult your instructor if you have any questions about our uniform policy.

Prepare for class.

Before your first class, eat a healthy snack with a little bit of protein. We love apples and peanut butter or cheese. Always bring a water bottle to class. Make sure you allow enough time to get to the studio a few minutes early to find your instructor, change clothes, and focus your body and mind on your first lesson.

Learn the dance class etiquette.

Once your class begins, there are a few things you should keep in mind. Keep chit chat to a minimum after the class starts. Try not to distract your classmates, and pay attention to any and all instruction. When your teacher gives a correction to one student, she is really talking to all of the students, so listen carefully. Even if you are not dancing, watch the other dancers to learn valuable information. If something your teacher asks you to do seems hard, just give it a try. Learning to dance is a process, and we only expect you to do what you can in order to get better each time!

Now you’re ready for your first class! Remember, if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to us any time! We’re here to help.
